I have driven through the village of Kefalas a few times when I’ve chosen to take the long way home and always thought it was an adorable little place. When you get close to town, there’s a big stone art sculpture welcoming you to Kefalas. I looked it up and saw there are all these cool sculptures in the area created by one man. I wanted to go check it out last summer, but it was always so hot!
So on Saturday I asked Joshua if he was up for a quickie adventure. He had been not feeling well all week, and I thought maybe a little fresh air might be good! He agreed, and we made the 10 minute journey up the hill.

As soon as we got out of the car a whole mess of cats ran up to us! I need to remember to start packing cat snacks in my bag again. It felt like a great start to our afternoon! We walked down to what was marked as the Kefalas Stone Museum on google maps, and it is totally just this guy’s house and yard!

Husband for scale! I had to squeeze through this little maze of art. He even made little rooms with cool thrones and stuff.

When we got to the other side of the house, we encountered the artist, Vangelis, hanging laundry on his line. We had a lovely little chat, and he informed us that he used to be a hermit living in a cave down by this beautiful beach, which just happened to already be my next destination on our adventure. Apparently he met a nice British lady and fell in love, and the power of love got him to move out of his cave and into this house. He also informed us that he had more work down the road a bit, so we walked down to check that out too.

On our walk back to the village proper, we ran into another herd of cats.

Then we had a bite to eat at the taverna in town, and those town cats, as well as a random dog, joined us. It’s the off season, so the waitress just listed the handful of things they had available for the day. So we enjoyed a classic Ashley and Joshua afternoon snack feast of tzatziki, local sausages, and fried potatoes. Then we headed to Omprogialos, which means Octopus Bay.

The water was absolutely beautiful. Just jaw dropping, stunning turquoise. We wondered around a bit and discovered the cave!

Shoving all of my deep cave fears inspired by the movie “The Descent” down, I turned on my phone flash light and crawled on in. It was so tiny. I can’t imagine living in there, although the view was incredible!

Oh wait sorry, that was my view, but his was of this beautiful bay.

It was a quality few hours out of the house, and all within 10-20 minutes of our house! I’m happy to continue discovering the majesty of our area and coming up with cool places to take guests when we start getting some this year!
In other news, I promised you a tale of the day when a spider was the cleanest living creature at our house. We had a sunny day WITH WATER last week, so I was minding my own business catching up on laundry. I was hanging a load up to dry, when I looked in and saw this pretty big juicy spider on one of Joshua’s socks!

Old Ashley would’ve probably burned the house down, even though the washing machine is out on the porch. Haha! But I once again put on my big girl panties and pulled the sock out. The spider was alive and doing some stretches. I can’t imagine how disoriented the poor thing was after a thirty minute wash cycle with a disinfectant rinse! I called Joshua out in case he was interested in meeting our cleanest friend, and of course he was!

He gently transferred our spider buddy over to the bougainvillea and then went to check on it a few times over the next hour or two. I’m pretty sure it survived.

Also feel free to ask BMO about the delicious dumpster sandwich he got his jaws around while I stopped on a walk to take a picture of this poor trash Santa. Then Felix freaked out thinking BMO might be a victim of our local dog poisoners, and I said it was probably just a sandwich but we’d keep an eye on him. It was definitely just a trash sandwich.
