Anniversary trip part one: Athens

Joshua and I took the overnight ferry to Athens last Friday to start our twenty year anniversary trip with a weekend in the city. The biggest downside of the overnight ferry is arriving at 6am. If you have a cabin, you’re supposed to be up and out of it 30 minutes before docking. Of course we ended up arriving early this time and got door knocked and kicked out. Just kidding, they just told us it was time.

We made it into the city around 6:30 am and treated ourselves to breakfast. Luckily our gorgeous penthouse apartment was ready early, so we got to check in and take a nap!

I tried to go do some shopping as a lot of stores are closed on Sundays, but it was absolute madness! The shops and streets were full! I did find a cute pair of shoes that I can wear out in the future, but then we took a cocktail break and got massages. If you look around, you can find super cheap ones. I found a place on my trip last summer, so we each got full body massages for 35/40 euros. Joshua’s cost a little more because I booked him a deep tissue massage.

Afterwards we went back to the apartment to drink a bottle of sparkling rose’ within view of the Acropolis, went out for tacos, and went to bed. I had grand plans of going out, but I forgot that I woke up at 5 am and was dead by 10pm.

Sunday was our official anniversary. I’ve been with this guy for twenty years now! WTF?! That’s wild! We went out for lunch at a cafe we’d been to in the past that has delicious club sandwiches. Then we went and bought cat food so we could lure my almost kitten Dr. Fish to us for love.

It worked, and the good doctor was just as wonderful as she was in the summer. Joshua said he wouldn’t have been mad if we had brought this cat home, but alas, Conglomerate was who was meant to be our puss.

After that we went to the Temple of Hephaestus and surrounding ancient business. We had not inspected these ones up close yet.

Then we went out for cocktails, and then back to the penthouse to drink fancy beers we bought at the liquor store.

I made Joshua pose with my anniversary sign I had made some years ago.

Then we went out to dinner at some street food place that had good reviews. Joshua was really happy with what he had, but mine was kind of boring. On our walk back I wanted a treat and was somehow able to con him into going into Little Kook. They were still working on the outside, but it was extreme Christmas inside!

This is the one section they had jazzed up outside.

I went to bed after this. A weekend in Athens is not relaxing, and I was super tired. I wanted to load up on energy for the next portion of our trip! I am currently writing from another less fancy but still cozy penthouse in the Peloponnese. We’ve been going on a good adventure or two every day, and I have tons of good stuff to tell you about!

Happy Thanksgiving to my friends and family in America. I don’t miss turkey, but I do miss you!
