Athens days whatever, time has no meaning

These two delicious creatures are Tangerine, the one eyed ginger, and his best friend, who we call “Tangerine’s Best Friend” or TBF for short. These two silly pants kitties live in a little square by our hotel. They like to spend their time sleeping against the shuttered fronts of a little strip of shops while it’s hot or out in the grass when it’s not peak furnace.

We stopped by to pet them every time we passed by, sometimes even 3-4 times a day! Tangerine loves pets, but he also likes to pretend he wants you to pet his belly so he has an excuse to slap you around a little. He also likes to play wild cat games, which aren’t necessarily my jam because they usually end with a few new holes in my body. I’m fine with the amount that I have, sir! Felix took some hand damage from Tangerine, but he says it was worth it.

TBF loves all pets, including belly rubs, and let me pull tufts of loose fur from her body. She will not slice you up with her love.

At this point, I’m not exactly sure what we did on which days, and there’s a chance my previous post is actually a mix of several days, not the second and third like I proclaimed. I went to write this post and realized the photos I had cued up were maybe from Sunday? Either way, the timeline is meaningless because adventures are forever.

I do know that we ate this epic health food feast on Saturday afternoon. Felix was in the mood for some chicken, so I found a burger joint that had pictures of beautiful chicken tenders on their google review. Imagine my surprise when the two chicken things we ordered off the appetizer menu (as well as garbage fries, natch) turned into a mountain of food. Felix was not mad about it, and we feasted so hard that we did not eat dinner that night!

Instead we opted for a walk around, stopping in the shadow of some ancient ruins when we saw a cafe with a happy hour sign. We had some cocktails and listened to live Greek music. I bought the gratitude of the musicians by being the first one to clap enthusiastically, which started a trend. I’m always around to get the party started if you ever need any help. I will dance, clap, cheer, and/or take my shirt off, depending on what kind of party you’re hoping for.

On Sunday Felix slept in (ok, he always sleeps in, but I didn’t try to bug him at all!), while I got up early to go see if any morning kittens were out. I decided to grab breakfast at a restaurant because the free breakfast at our hotel, while good, was starting to get boring. I had this delicious abomination of a croque madame made on a waffle!

croque madame on a waffle!

I do not know what kind of cheese was on there. It was giving American, but I’ve never seen that here. It was delicious none the less, eaten in the shadow of a giant church on a Sunday morning where I listened to the bells and watched the people file out in their Sunday best.

After I went back and took my own nap, Felix found the courage to rise from his grave so we could go check out the Athens museum of illusion, which was pretty fun. Aside from this spinny tube thing that totally made me seasick.

My son and I in the infinity room at the museum of illusion

The infinity room was my favorite! Also notice my bitchin marble print muumuu, purchased in Athens with another one because I was SO HOT and wanted some costumes that did not stick to my sweaty meat and would perhaps let a breeze through. This one has pockets!

I also really enjoyed the upside down room! Afterwards, feeling queasy (from the rotating tunnel of barfs) and hot, I saw a place sort of across the street that said it had beer and a rooftop garden. We popped in and asked if the roof was open, and the waitress said yes, but that we definitely did not want to sit up there. She was right. It was 1000 degrees, so we sat back down on the main floor to peruse their BINDER OF BEERS, which was in Greek.

a view of En Aithria Athens, a gorgeous bar and restaurant

This place was absolutely gorgeous, so we settled in and picked some beers.

A translated description of king goblin beer

Who can resist a beer brewed under a full moon in the magical woods that gives you a rich vision of doom?!

We ended up sitting there drinking beers for HOURS. The vibes were right. There was the faintest hint of air conditioning. There was man selling bootleg dvds of porn across the street. What more could you want? We loved it so much that we went back on Monday after we had to check out of our hotel and burn a whole day until our ferry!

two pretty dogs guarding Hadrian's library in Athens

Wandering around later we saw these gorgeous dogs hard at work guarding Hadrian’s Library, which I think makes them the night librarians?

An elementary school with an ancient site right next to it

And then we saw this little school with adjacent ancient biz. Can you imagine growing up playing hopscotch next to this majesty?!

I think I have a couple more things to share in addition to our photography tour results, and then we can wrap this trip up and put a bow on it. I can’t even tell you how much of a wonderful time I had goofing off with Felix. We were already pretty close, but we bonded even more over petting kitties and drinking weird cocktails after popping in to any church we saw to see how good their depictions of “Jesse” were. It could have only been better if it wasn’t so hot. Like change your underwear 2-3 times a day hot. Bras have salty watermarks halfway up the cups hot. Entering my muumuu era and taking cold showers on purpose hot. Also Felix wants his own room next time because apparently I snore. Also our beds were so close together that we could have held hands, and I have kicked myself more than once for not taking a picture of us doing just that!
