I have tried to go see the band Placebo play in America twice over the last couple years, and both times they have cancelled. Once the morning before I flew to see them in Seattle. I went anyway to see my best friend. The second time I didn’t know it was cancelled until I paid to park and walked to the venue. I told my husband that it should be much easier to see them in Europe, and tickets were announced for a show in Athens less than a week after we got here!
I bought two thinking Joshua would join me, but Felix has never been to Athens, so he came instead! On Tuesday we boarded the overnight ferry to Athens, and it’s been all fun and games ever since!

The ferry leaves Chania at 10 pm and arrives in Athens at 6:30 am. Tons of people just pull up a patch of floor! I did see that someone had brought an air mattress, which I would totally do if I hadn’t treated us to a cabin. I’m too old to sleep on the floor.

Our room was small but comfy. You can get rooms with windows, but I didn’t spend the extra money since it would be dark the whole time anyway.

We took one of these ferries to Crete when we first arrived and had a four bed cabin. It was the same only with bunk beds!
Hotel check in wasn’t until 3 pm, so we had to entertain ourselves for quite a while after dropping our bags at the hotel. We went for a walk and met this delightful tiny baby, who I named Dr. Fish after the close by foot spa where they have the little fish eat your dead foot skin. There are a lot of places with medical degrees, and Felix and I think it’s hilarious. Dr. Food was our favorite, but we also like Dr. Phone.

Felix is absolutely in love with this little fella. I told him we can try to take him home with us if he’s still there on Monday. We’re gonna bring him some wet food later today if he’s still at his favorite ancient ruins hangout spot.

He was having a great time playing with my belt loop. We’ve been talking about getting a kitten soon, and whether or not it works out with this guy, he got us excited for kitten shenanigans. We played with him for a good thirty minutes and had so much fun.
From there we went to eat breakfast and then walked around the flea market. Felix loved this helmet, but I made him look at the dicks for this photo.

We were both pretty exhausted and wanted to save our feet for a photography tour I had booked for the evening, so we found a restaurant near the hotel and proceeded to drink beers and eat pizza for a couple hours until we decided to go see if we could check in early.

This little church is under a huge hotel building right across the street! I saw what I assume was a typo in a museum referring to Jesus as Jesse, so Felix and I refer to all churches as Jesse’s house.
After a quick nap and some showers, we headed out on our photography tour, which was three hours long! More on that later, but our guide Stefanos took us to some great spots, including one with this view of Athens.

This city is absolutely gigantic! Our guide said that 5 million people live here, and I can definitely believe it based on the views we saw last night.
We were absolutely starving after walking around for three hours, so we stopped at a little taverna in Psyri that had live music.

After dinner we stopped for some walking gelato to give us the will to walk to the hotel. A man standing in front of the shop asked me to buy him an ice cream, and I said yes because people deserve ice cream. The ice cream scooping lady confirmed that I’d buy his before he ordered a gigantic bowl with a bunch of flavors. Ha!

We stopped to feed our dinner leftovers to this very sexy cat and his friends, who were doing regular cat sitting and not alluring people in with their bellies. I guess it was this guy’s turn to be the thirst trap for the evening.
I sort of want to go back to sleep now, but I have a foot massage scheduled at 11 am. Tonight is the concert night, and I am so excited! We’re gonna take it pretty easy in the hopes of having plenty of energy for later, but we have several more days to explore after today.
My stepmom Kris said it seemed weird that Felix and I were going on a trip. Like her brain thinks we’re on vacation and then going on vacation from our vacation, and it does sort of feel like that!
